The "Wednesday Playoff" is a monthly opportunity for authors to have rehearsed readings of their play performed in front of a live audience.
Maximum 15-minute extracts will be performed from up to 5 new plays at each Play Off event. They are reviewed by an invited expert who can offer comments to the writers. The audience will vote for their 2 favourit plays. The top 2 go through to the finale.
The overall winner of the final get the opportunity to present the full play at The Dylan Thomas Centre. Bit like 'X factor' but not as nasty.

Eligibility
of Work
WPO is primarily for new work. Play scripts performed elsewhere previously
are welcome. The script may be a work-in-progress or a completed work.
Eligibility of Authors
Novice writers and experienced professionals are equally entitled to submit
scripts.
Expansion
Potential of Work
An excerpt from a whole work must be entered. No completed works under 15
minutes are elgible. The "whole work" may be a one-act play in excess
of 20 minutes, or a full-length play. Sketches or monologues are not considered
suitable material.
Presence/Absence of Scripts
Rehearsed readings (with scripts) or fully-rehearsed performances (without
scripts) are equally acceptable.
Time Limit
The extract must be no longer than 15 minutes At the end of the time allowed,
an audible signal will be given, whereupon the performance must cease. Authors
are encouraged to tailor the excerpt to be performed comfortably within the
time limit, so as not to be halted before its proper end.
Minimum Technical Facilities
No lighting or sound facilities will be provided by the venue. Simple sound
effects and props may be provided by the performing company.
Quick Change-Over
Presentation must be sufficiently simple to allow a very rapid set-up and
strike. The performing company is responsible for all preparation and clearing,
which must not exceed three minutes in total.
Listing
One writer, One Play, One Season
The organisers expect all the entries to work within the spirit of the event
Final
The final will be presided over by 2 guest judges who will decide upon their
winner. The chair of judges will have a casting vote. The audience vote will
likewise decide their winner. Both winners then have the oportunity of being
presented, as full versions, at the Dylan Thomas Centre. The organisers expect

1. Only finished scripts will be given a slot. Gone are the days of reserving a place backed up by only the faintest notion of a story in your mind. Its akin to reserving a sun-lounger in the dead of night with a towel...

The ACTSwansea Play House
Once a year, in June, four x one-act plays of no more than 30 minutes duration. A writer cannot make a submission in successive years. The event is NOT for rehearsed readings - the cast should be off script. ACTSwansea take no responsibility for the organisng of the rehearsals for the play and only act as orgnisers of the venue and marketing of the event via this website. Four plays are required for the event to proceed.
